What is a GIA Report?
A Diamond Grading Report documents the specific characteristics of a diamond. These reports are issued by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), which is among the most respected organizations in the diamond industry.

The GIA Diamond Grading Report includes an assessment of the 4Cs – Color, Clarity, Cut, and Carat Weight – along with a plotted diagram of its clarity characteristics and a graphic representation of the diamond’s proportions. For standard round brilliant cut diamonds falling in the D-to-Z color range, the report also includes a GIA Cut grade.

GIA reports represent the highest standard of reliability, consistency and integrity. And now, GIA Report Check is available for all GIA reports, providing you with an additional level of assurance. With Report Check, you can quickly and conveniently confirm that the information on your report matches what is archived in the GIA report database. For more information, please visit the GIA website at http://www.gia.edu

Who certifies all the diamonds offered by Golkonda.com?
We sell diamonds certified by GIA (Gemological Institute of America). GIA is the most respected laboratory in the diamond industry, and is known for their consistency and unbiased diamond grading systems. Diamonds that are accompanied by these grading reports are the most highly valued in the industry.

In addition to being graded by the GIA, all Clear Light Cut ® Collection diamonds are certified by GCAL. GCAL also verifies that your diamond meets all of the demanding quality requirements of the perfect Clear Light Cut ©.

What is the Clear Light Cut ® by Golkonda.com?
The history of diamond cuts can be traced back for centuries. A major advancement involved polishing of the natural octahedral crystal faces to acheive even and unblemished facets. The first brilliant cut with 17 facets dates back to the 17th century, evolving to the modern 58 facets. More than 500 years of experimentation led to the introduction of the modern brilliant cut in the early 1900's.

The way a diamond is cut has the biggest effect on its appearance. The cut is therefore considered to be one of the most important characteristic of a diamond. Optimizing the number of facets is critical when calculating the light paths in a gem. The Clear Light Cut ® by Golkonda is the ultimate expression and was created for those who desire a diamond with superior light optical performance.

This cut achieves maximum brilliance, dispersion and scintillation. Light that is reflected off the surface of a diamond is known as brilliance. Light that enters a diamond and is refracted to create the spectral flashes of color is referred to as as dispersion or fire. Scintillation refers to the dance of of light in a diamond.

The finest uncut diamond rough found in nature is used to create this exceptional cut, with its exact measurements. Over 75 percent of the rough diamond is polished away in order to achieve the ideal proportions and angles for unparalleled brilliance. The Clear Light Cut ® is accompanied by dual certification from the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) and GCAL (Gem Certification & Assurance Lab)

How do I take care of my jewelry?
Your precious jewelry lives with you. You expose it to both the finest pleasures in life, as well as the undesirable elements of pollution, temperature fluctuations, knocks, and more. In order for you to pass your jewelry along for generations proper handling and servicing is imperative for its preservation. Whether you wear your piece every day, or only on special occasions, ensure to:

Be cautious and patient during its handling.

Avoid wearing several rings on one finger / constantly sliding a pendant on its chain, so you may prevent friction of the jewelry.

Remove your jewelry when applying lotion, spraying perfume, washing hands, etc. Remnants of these substances remain in gaps in jewelry, causing corrosion and subsequent deterioration.

Consider - Detergents, insecticides, etc., damage diamonds.

Consider- Mercury-based products damage gold.

Avoid exposing your piece to heat/radioactivity.

Avoid wearing your piece during housework/gardening, pool/beach/sports activities, so you may prevent scratches and knocks.

Clean your jewelry regularly and prevent a dull appearance-soak it in warm, neutral pH, soapy water; scrub it with a soft toothbrush; wash it in warm water; wipe it with a soft clean microfiber/cloth.

Contact our Golkonda New York staff yearly, at 1-800-5175837, to inspect, clean and refresh your piece.

How do I maintain my jewelry?
You will maintain your piece in its original condition by:

Ensuring clasp/safety catch is tight.

Ensuring prongs/settings are in place.

Ensuring that upon shaking the piece by your ear, it is silent. If it is noisy, the stones are not secure.

Ensuring that upon rubbing your jewelry on a thin cloth, cloth does not catch. Should it catch, the prongs are not adequately positioned.

Avoiding knocks, as jewelry may become unstable from contact with keys/bags/doors, etc., and diamonds may break/chip/scratch.

Avoiding wearing the piece, when in doubt, and contact Golkonda.com with any questions you may have.

What precautions do I take for storing my jewelry?
Avoid jewelry pieces rubbing against each other, and consequently, getting scratched. Store them in their respective Golkonda New York case.

Avoid knots in chains by closing, wrapping, and laying them flat.

Can I polish or shine my jewelry?
Polishing removes scratches on jewelry by removing a fine layer of the gold. It is recommended up to twice in the lifetime of a white gold piece, and up to three times in the lifetime of a yellow gold piece. We polish your piece, clean it, then, immerse it in soapy water in an ultrasonic tank.

Shining is a less intense process. It may remove superficial scratches on yellow/pink gold (excluding Rhodium-plated jewelry). We use a felt disc and shining paste to provide the piece with a sparkling appearance.

Our Golkonda New York staff is always available at 1-800-5175837 for assessment of your jewelry status and proposal of the appropriate procedure. Upon completion of the procedure, we technically and aesthetically inspect your piece for quality.

How do I repair my jewelry?
Golkonda New York will inspect your piece, propose the appropriate procedure, and provide an estimate for services. Upon your approval, we shall service it.

Please contact our staff at 1-800-517-5837, and visit our showroom with your piece and its certificate of purchase/warranty.

How do I ensure the correct size for my jewelry?
Golkonda New York will size your jewelry. Please contact our staff at 1-800-517-5837, and visit our showroom.

As to rings-measure your finger at the end of the day. Do not measure your finger when it’s hot/cold. Each of our hands may have differing ring sizes for same respective fingers.

Ensure your ring is spacious enough for the entire finger to pass through it. Use a tape measure; the reference for your ring size is the circumference in millimeters. Ring model also affects ring size. When in doubt, choose a larger ring size. Larger ring models may be worn looser than smaller ones.

As to bracelets- take hold of a bracelet which is your exact fit, and lay it flat. Measure it in centimeters, from top (including clasp) to end. The reference for your bracelet size is the length in centimeters.

As to necklaces- the reference for your necklace size is the length in centimeters; its size, also, depends on fit and model.

Can you engrave my jewelry?
Provided there’s ample space, and the engraving won’t damage your piece, we shall engrave your jewelry for you. Please contact our staff at 1-800-517-5837, and visit our Golkonda New York showroom.
